Trellia’s comment:  Not Goth news at all, but very close to my heart because this chalet is two minutes’ walk from my house in England!

Also, Victorian Goths may be interested in the garden party, which is on July 3rd.  Wouldn’t it be lovely to see lots of dark-clad, mysterious Victorian Gothic beauties swirling around the arches and fishponds of the garden…

As I am a member of a bellydance group (Bellyqueen) in Nagasaki, this type is very close to my heart.

I’m really not good at bellydance at all, but I absolutely love the music and the costumes.

Not long ago, I posted about contributing to a book collated and edited by Alexander Nym.  Well, that book is now up on Amazon.co.uk:

It’ll be released to coincide with Germany’s Wave Gotik Treffen festival (May).

The article that I’ve written for the book is called “Shadows in the Looking-Glass: Goth and the Media,” and it addresses the relationship between the cultures of the underground and mainstream worlds, depictions of Goths on TV and movies, and how this relationship has changed and may change further in the future.

Other contributors to this book include John Murphy (SPK, Coil), N.U. Unruh (Einstürzende Neubauten), Tilo Wolff (Lacrimosa) and even Alien Sex Fiend’s Nik Fiend!

News after two years!

Hello all…

I’m sorry it’s been something over 2 years since I last did anything with this site.  The fact is, I’ve been living in Japan and life has been pretty busy, teaching English and doing cultural exchange activities.  But I think now is time to return to this site that I love.  So, what news is there?

- My artwork and an entirely new essay by me will be featured in a book to be published in German, by Alexander Nym.  The book, which also features contributions from  Strawberry Switchblade’sRose McDowall and Alien Sex Fiend’s very own Nik Fiend, will be released at Wave Gothick Treffen.  Exciting!

- My art will also be featured in German magazine Kunststoff, who are going a feature about Goth.

- I will be returning to the UK in August.  I imagine that my life is going to be full of a lot of free time for a while (read: “in between jobs”), so I’ll probably be updating a bit more.

- As for what I’m doing in Japan, I’m an English teacher in Nagasaki City.  I work at four schools.  I have introduced my kids to The Cure and Emilie Autumn, got them to watch Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice in Wonderland, given them presents of my Goth art when they do well, and given my main school’s art club lots of photos of UK Goths as inspiration.  Cultural exchange, indeed!
